On protecting ourselves

December 31, 2016 by John Falloon Leave a Comment

It’s important to identify the parts of your mind that are acting as your protectors, trying to make sure you don’t get hurt and that you fit in with the world around you. The more connected you are with Self, the less your managers need to protect you from hurt, fear and shame.

#tbt – My first grandchild

December 29, 2016 by John Falloon Leave a Comment

This #ThrowbackThursday only goes back a handful of weeks to the day I met my first grandchild. New babies are amazing miracles, and this little one is absolutely perfect. I know that having personally suffered through a terrible birth abnormality has affected my life greatly, not only physically with the childhood amputation of both legs, … [Read more…]

Travel Tuesday – Santa Barbara, California

December 27, 2016 by John Falloon Leave a Comment

Let’s be honest – most people don’t explore California by bike! But after years of riding motorized bikes, I decided it was time to hop back on a real bike and see the city at a slower pace. Santa Barbara is beautiful.

Deal With Your Past

December 26, 2016 by John Falloon Leave a Comment

I was pretty confused about a lot of things in my life, and in my 40’s I began having panic attacks and extreme anxiety. Internal Family Systems and my journey to being Self Aware has allowed me to address my past and realize why I am the way I am. I am living and enjoying … [Read more…]

On misbehaving

December 24, 2016 by John Falloon Leave a Comment

Do you ever do something that you know isn’t right, just to get attention? I did it a lot as a kid, and I catch myself doing it even now as a grown man. When you learn something as a child, it stays with you forever, engrained in your subconscious. It takes real effort to … [Read more…]

#tbt – A nice day golfing

December 22, 2016 by John Falloon Leave a Comment

#ThrowbackThursday to a gorgeous day golfing. I love golfing. As a child, I wasn’t allowed to participate in many sports, as my parents would not have been able to afford to replace a prosthetic leg if I had damaged it. Of course, I didn’t understand that reasoning and just felt excluded. Now, as an adult, … [Read more…]

Travel Tuesday – Tanzania, Africa

December 20, 2016 by John Falloon Leave a Comment

In May 2015, I travelled to Africa with my daughter, Jamie, to work with the Maasai Conservation Fund. The main purpose of our trip was to help bring potable water to a community in need, and it was amazing to be able to help people who were living without a basic necessity that we take … [Read more…]

Willpower Will Seldom Win

December 19, 2016 by John Falloon Leave a Comment

It is easy to think that if we set out minds to something, we can achieve it. But the truth of the matter is that most behaviours are deeply rooted in our formative years, and are so engrained in our subconscious that our conscious mind, or willpower, will not win in the long run. You may … [Read more…]

On biased attitudes

December 17, 2016 by John Falloon Leave a Comment

Internal Family Systems has changed my life. Becoming self aware and realizing how my past influences every part of my life and why I think and act the way I do has enabled me to stop and assess various situations and acknowledge things like biased attitudes. And once you are aware of your biases, like … [Read more…]

#tbt – My little daughter

December 15, 2016 by John Falloon Leave a Comment

#ThrowbackThursday to when my oldest daughter was just a little girl. It feels like only yesterday, and yet also like a lifetime ago. She has grown into an exceptional woman, but I can’t help but wonder how I would have parented differently if I had learned about being Self Aware back then…
